FATWAS ON THE AHAMADIYA MOVEMENT

http://alhafeez.org/rashid/scholars.html
1974 Declaration by World Muslim League (Rabita al-Alam al-Islami)
by Mohammad Bashir
World Muslim League held its annual conference at Makkah Al-Mukaramma Saudi Arabia from 14th to 18th of Rabiul Awwal 1394 H (April 1974) in which 140 delegations of Muslim countries and organizations from all over the world participated. I (Mohammad Bashir) too was there in this Conference alongwith the other journalists from all over the world. The Conference unanimously adopted the following Resolution regarding Qadianism.
Qadianism or Ahmadiyyat: It is a subversive movement against Islam and the Muslim world, which falsely and decietfully claims to be an Islamic sect; who under the guise of Islam and for the sake of mundane interests contrives and plans to damage the very foundations of Islam. Its eminent deviations from the basic Islamic principles are as follows:
Its founder claimed that he was a Prophet.
They deliberately distort the meanings of the verses of the Holy Quran.
They decalred that Jehad has been obolished.
Qadianism was originally fostered by the British imperialism. Hence it has been flourishing under her flag. This movement has completely been disloyal to and dishonest in affairs of the Muslim Ummah. Rather, it has been loyal to Imperialism and Zionism. It has deep associations and cooperation with the anti Islamic forces and teachings especially through the following nefarious methods:
Construction of mosques with the assistance of the anti Islamic forces wherin the misleading Qadiani thoughts are imparted to the people.
Opening of schools institutions and orphanages wherein the people are taught and trained as to how they can be more anti Islamic in their activities. They also published the corrupted versions of the Holy Quran in different local and international languages.
In order to combat these dangers, the Conference recommends the following measures:
All the Muslim organization in the world must keep a vigilant eye on all the activities of Qadianisin their respective countries; to confine them all strictly to their schools, institutions and orphanages only. Moreover he Muslims of the world be shown the true picture of Qadianism and be briefed of their various tactics so that the Muslims of the world be saved from their designs .
They must be declared non Muslims and ousted form the fold of Islam. And be barred to enter the Holy lands.
There must be no dealings with the Qadianis. They must be coycotted socially , economically and culturally Nor they be married with or to Nor they be allowed to be buried in the Muslims graveyards. And they be treated like other non Muslims.
All the Muslim countries must impose restrictions on the activities of the claimant of Prophethood Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiani’s followers; must declare them a non Muslim minority must not etrust them them with any post of responsibility in any Muslim country.
The alterations effected by them in the Holy Quran must be made public and the people be briefed of them and all these be prohibited for further publication.
All such groups as are deviators from islam must be treated at par with the Qadianis.

JUVENILE YOUTHS

The little things we take for granted
A wide topic with lots of implications. Our societies took advantage of some of the little things we should have cherish and promote. I was watching a small documentary about a small U.K town. This town was control by juvenile youths. The people together with the police came with an idea of introducing a self-impose curfew.
Youths are barred from living home from 9pm to morning. This means parents who couldn’t spend time with children due to bickering and endless quarrels are forced to find a compromise. To stay together as a family, talk and discuss issues. This self-impose curfew stopped the night time fighting and noise. People felt safe and can sleep with ease. Anti-social behaviours create endless police time wasting. The curfew helps safe police time, no form filling, no arrest and no jail time.
The summer holiday in the town went fine and children safety was guaranteed.
The little things, i mean, spending time with one’s family and children. Argue in a polite and respectable manner. Eat together and chat. The community spirit and harmony is a small thing modern way of life can eliminate but, it is central to social harmony and peace.

SENKO, A PRE-ISLAMIC RITUAL IN WULLI

watch this video of a pre-Islamic ritual in wulli. the act is perform by a man who only his guide can identify, known in mandinka as jobo. this person is of communal importance. he perform for the community in dispelling evil spirits. the association of jnn's are central to his powers. but the sad part is before one becomes a senko, he must sacrifice his sister to the snake, who will later die. this was a believe in pre-islamic wulli, but since islamisation banish all such practises, the community re-enact the performance of the senko (a from of kankuran).
check it out, for non-mandinka speakers, sorry.

my best movie so far

Tom Hanks is my best actor. the guy hardly does funny stuffs in his acting. no much exposure or sex. very good acting and funny. i love his movie the Terminal. he was brilliant in that. the film was base on a fictional country of Krakozhia, there was civil war taking place. he was also trying to go to new york to get an autograph from a jazz legend as a promise to late dad. what a good old fashion son! he spent over 9 month at the terminal for lack of entry visa into fortress U.S. and he spoke Bulgarian in film. i laughed throughout the film. he was witty and funny.
did you watch the film? how is it? i am more into old movie's.

the truth about HIV in the Gambia

there is an unconfirmed theory that, the real statistics about HIV in the Gambia is not correct. no one is doing a good job of counting the real number of people infected with the disease. our government is busy patronising the president's treatment programs, so no one dear question the real number of people infected. i hope our papers conduct a good investigative journalism into this saga. men traveling to the Gambia on holiday, please be careful. don't let the change in your pocket put you into a life long nightmare. be careful and act responsibly. stop the promiscuity and stay sober and aware of the dangers of HIV. this is a real danger for us all.

WELCOMING RAMADAM

our great month is approacing slowly. it is a month of many blessings and of soul searching. a month of remembrance of the poor and the weak. a month for one to detox and renew his/her faith. a month to reconsider one's actions and seek foregiveness from family and friends. a month to amass many good deeds and hope the Almighty God accept all your efforts.
on a lighter note, a month of worry and despair for the sanyang kunda, suso kunda and camara kunda folks. the big eaters. they fast but consume over loaded amount of food early in the morning and then sleep all day. i hope they can do it the right way.
I ask all and sundry to foregive me if through my writings offended anyone. I wish every one a blessed ramadan. read the holy book alot and do a lot of nawafil (extra-prayers). observe the fast appropraitely.

suspicious minds

the Gambia online community seems have quick suspicious minds about one another. people have ulterior motives in many conversations; yet some will hide this motives and try to rationalise the facts in a deceptive way. we all want something from our thoughts and labours. we are deceiving ourselves if we want to portray ourselves as sacrificing for others only.
unless folks are real and open about their agendas, we will always suspect each other unnecessarily. it is no crime for us to have pride and love our respective ethnicity. that is natural and human. it becomes a problem when we hide this instinct and try to deceive others. the Gambia is not a harmonious society, there has always been tensions. but this tensions makes us stronger.
we need to avoid hidden agendas for the common good of the our country, if not all struggles will go to waste. i am comfortable and happy of being a Mandingo, but that doesn't make me hate any other Gambian ethnic group. i only get irritated if some folks wish to portray theself's otherwise. lets get real and work together.

Gambian Writers webstite maintain by Cherno O Barry

IN PUSHUIT OF ACAMADIC EXECELLENCE
Gambians interested in writing and documenting their ideas and thought are hereby notify of an avenue created by our able and dedicated brother, Cherno Omar Barry.
The Gambian writers’ website, www.Gamwriters.com is a platform where interested Gambians can send their thesis and articles for publication. This website if manage by brother Cherno Omar Barry of the University of The Gambia. The reason I believe Mr Barry is undertaking a noble venture is to do with the fact that, we are way behind many other nations in terms of knowledge creation and management.
Imagine the resources that will be available to Gambian students and experts spread across the globe with a data base of interesting and relevant articles and information about books. Brother Cherno Barry’s site has the whole lot. What the site needs now is the willingness for us to send him our articles and information’s about books written by Gambians.
Regularly we see Gambian students quoting other people in their academic writings. Gambian students in different universities find it hard to have resources about the Gambia, this difficulty put Gambian student off taking any research topic about the Gambia. This is very sad and embarrassing for us all in this day and age. If we want to change our country, we must start by creating a wealth of knowledge data base. We can readily have information about the Gambia by Gambians. This can be quoted in our thesis and research course works.
Whatever article you have with you, send it to info@gamwriters.com. You can also visit the blog, www.gamwriters.blogspot.com.
Wouldn’t it be nice to cite a Gambian brother or sister once in awhile in our course works and dissertations? The site is respectable and academically resourceful. The effort of Cherno Barry deserves our collective commendations. Some new book information’s are already available on the sites. Whatever is lying in your desk or disk may be of use to many interested Gambians, so get it out and make it available to the wider Gambian readership.

The Quranic chapter on Jinns

Al-Jinn
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Say (O Muhammad): It is revealed unto me that a company of the Jinn gave ear, and they said: Lo! we have heard a marvellous Qur'an, (1) Which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe unto our Lord no partner. (2) And (we believe) that He - exalted be the glory of our Lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son, (3) And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie. (4) And lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah - (5) And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of humankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt (against Allah); (6) And indeed they supposed, even as ye suppose, that Allah would not raise anyone (from the dead) - (7) And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors. (8) And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him; (9) And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them. (10) And among us there are righteous folk and among us there are far from that. We are sects having different rules. (11) And we know that we cannot escape from Allah in the earth, nor can we escape by flight. (12) And when we heard the guidance, we believed therein, and whoso believeth in his Lord, he feareth neither loss nor oppression. (13) And there are among us some who have surrendered (to Allah) and there are among us some who are unjust. And whoso hath surrendered to Allah, such have taken the right path purposefully. (14) And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell. (15) If they (the idolaters) tread the right path, We shall give them to drink of water in abundance (16) That We may test them thereby, and whoso turneth away from the remembrance of his Lord; He will thrust him into ever-growing torment. (17) And the places of worship are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah. (18) And when the slave of Allah stood up in prayer to Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling. (19) Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I pray unto Allah only, and ascribe unto Him no partner. (20) Say: Lo! I control not hurt nor benefit for you. (21) Say: Lo! none can protect me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge beside Him (22) (Mine is) but conveyance (of the Truth) from Allah, and His messages; and whoso disobeyeth Allah and His messenger, lo! his is fire of hell, wherein such dwell for ever. (23) Till (the day) when they shall behold that which they are promised (they may doubt); but then they will know (for certain) who is weaker in allies and less in multitude. (24) Say (O Muhammad, unto the disbelievers): I know not whether that which ye are promised is nigh, or if my Lord hath set a distant term for it. (25) (He is) the Knower of the Unseen, and He revealeth unto none His secret, (26) Save unto every messenger whom He hath chosen, and then He maketh a guard to go before him and a guard behind him (27) That He may know that they have indeed conveyed the messages of their Lord. He surroundeth all their doings, and He keepeth count of all things. (28)

freedom loving gambians delight over FJ Manneh

I was delighted about the freedom of fatou Jaw from the clutches of Gambias owner yahya jammeh. i even started drinking attaya to mark the occasion. she is a tough lady and we are all proud of her.
I hope we all can be as courageous as she is. I shall certainly contribute my small quota to her enormous bill. the courts are wrong to convict her. freedom of speech is dead in the Gambia. I hope Yahya's supporters can see the reality is his method of rule. Harshness never achieve any thing. God bless Fatou Jaw Manneh for her stance.

muscle pain

in my quest to loose weight, i started feeling cramped. all my body muscles started paining me. i am finding it hard to deal with that. i hope some one somewhere can help me with the best pain killer to take.
i really need that advice. i am stopping the hard exercise during the fasting period (ramadam). it is the best month to loose weight and detox. i hope the sanyang kunda folks are ready for the bless month.

Changing environment

i travel to London and its surroundings last week to visit friends. it is good to do a short hop change of environment. i enjoy the trip and thanks to my friends for having me for that period. the change of atmosphere revitalise me a lot. i visited some historical places in London Sloane square, pimlico, Chelsea and Victoria and also Arsenal and Upton park. i like the east end of London. the books shops and markets. it was nice.
next i am going to write about the synthetic hair industry and its effect on black beauty. a controversial topic indeed.

free discussion on the marabous

Haruna, you answered your new found nephew well. all i can add is that, the case at hand is more to do with believe and faith than evidence. religion is not all about logic. that is why Caliph Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said "if every thing in religion is logic, then we would wipe the bottom of our socks rather than the top during wodu (ablution)." so to ask certain question concerning the jinns and linking that to the believe in doomas and buwas is a mistaken understanding.
yes, doomas and buwas are a common believe in Africa and even the west. witch hunting sagas. the quran never mention any thing about doomas or buwas, what is evident is that humans have different capabilities, some very strange indeed.
coming to why God create Jinns, that is a question young suntou cannot answer. i do not question the rational behind God's creation. he is the "creator of all the worlds".(quran). some creation of his we are not aware of.
but what brother sey's question entail is the fact, the understanding of religion is quite an issue with so many Muslims. i suggested that brother Sey read Suratul Jinn, that would have explain some his questions, but only he has the answer as to whether he read it or not.
secondly, i have done my best to avoid mention any body's name in the piece. to name people who cannot defend themselves in the forum is a great sin, it is backbiting. i have seen first hand the mixing of quranic writings and other alien inscription practise by marabous. but i cannot give out names, i am not out to declare war on myself. these people are dangerous, they knowingly mix the quran with satanic knowledge, i also stated that for most, it's greed that push them to do what they do. this was why the late Sheik Omar Bun jeng stated, "this marabous should stop telling people, i dreamt that this and this will happen". he went on to say, "they should take up work and benefit through that". one famous sheriff, name withheld use to stay in our home whenever he came to serrekunda, he is still so famous, one cannot possibly consult him alone, you must explain yourself to him among people or else, you cannot have that chance. only the very rich can take him to their home, entertain him and then consult him. but doing that is not easy money. i have seen many very rich folks coming to consult him. another famous marabou who live next to our home is a sarahuleh man, he too use to be visited by very powerful men. the cars they come with were top of the range, i know of some them by face. why do they consult this them? addiction and lack of trust i would say. i may be wrong but the marabous hardly talk about Islam and doing good. the client may come to inflict harm on his/her rival. we all know this things are happening at a great cost to our society.
an analogy is the common practise of corruption and bribery in our society. Do any one here believe that the brothers and sister per-taking in corrupt practises don't know what they are doing? they know very well, it wrong and will always bring our society backward. again, the illegal killing of fellow country men and women. those undertaking the brutal task know for sure what they are doing is wrong, yet they do it. this is human nature, self-interest versus Good action.
also i came to know of many of high class directors, managers and top official indulging in the consumption of liquor in hotels and private secluded bars all over the greater Banjul. some of this brothers, are islamically well respected by people, but privately, they go to hotels and instruct the waiters to box (mixing alcohol with coke or some other soft drink) just that others wouldn't know they are drinking wine or brandy. this things happen. why? so long as one can get away with corrupt actions, people do it.
just look at war zones, why do business men fear looting from the general public? when there is no law and order, every one becomes a common criminal, that is why we need proper law and order and good governance if not anarchy and lawlessness follows. also Rape is very common is war situations, why? no police to monitor any one, fan kun fan kun is the order of the day.
Similarly, our brothers with the kaftan can do things to get rich. remember, brother sey, wealth is the biggest status symbol, so however pious you are, if you are poor, tough. not many sherif or marabouts can stomach poverty. they create the need for people to rely on them. If you as a hustler in Europe or America, or a civil servant secular educated fellow, an environment is there to rely on marabous for all spiritual matters. this is wrong. but they make money and you feel some sort of comfort of handing them some Euros or Dollars or even dalasis. they are happy and you are happy.
they know what they are doing is unislamic, the quran accuses some other religious people of the past of selling the ayahs or words of God for paltry prices. this is what this marabouts do. so teaching some youths the quran is a sure way of attracting people to themselves. but i reiterated that not all marabout mix the art of Jinn worship with the worship of God. some charge people upfront, some take an advance, some will not charge at all. they are into several categories. some can charge over D40000 dalasis.
to avoid them is the most noble thing for strong Muslim. rely on Allah invoke him directly. be charitable to the poor and needy and be genuine as a Muslim. when you err, ask for forgiveness and don't go repeating the same sin over and over again.

Quality time with children

Iwas listening to an educational matters program last week. The program was organise to help parents in enhancing the educational achievement of children. parenting is one big task now a days. The school can only play a part in children education, the parents play a major part as children spend more time at home than in the school. sadly parents hardly spend enough time with children let alone know the progress and problems children are facing in their schools. only few parents visit their kid's school.

I was moved by the plead of a daughter to her father in the program. One school administrator narrated an incident between a young girl and her father. this young girl wish to spend more time with her dad, but unfortunately, the dad is always busy at work. The Dad comes home exhausted and some times the kid's are already in bed. the daughter always wish to discuss her school work with her father but as usual the Dad don't have the time.
One day, the daughter waited for her father to come from work. the little girl call her father into her room. She ask her dad about his hourly pay rate. the father became angry, he angry told her daughter to mind her business. He went into his room but realises his mistake and went back to his daughter and apologises. He told her his hourly pay, which is £20 (twenty pounds).
The daughter again went on asking her father to give her £10 (ten pounds). Again the dad was upset at her daughter's request for money. He went off, but then return back to apologise to his daughter for the second time. He handed the £10 to his daughter.

This is where the story became sad. The little girl was all along trying to find out how much her father is paid so that she can pay her father an hour wage rate for the father to spend time with her.
the little girl already has £10 and she needed another £10 to complete her father's £20 an hour wages. she handed her father twenty pounds and requested that he spend one hour with her.

if you didn't get the full story, well tough. the little girl was trying to spend an hour quality time with her father who is always busy and tired. she paid her dad £20 so that he can be motivated to spend time with her.
now, this is sad. please guys sometimes our children prefer to spend with us than their mothers whom they stay with most of the time. let us not be spending dads only, money dads. our time and opinion is important to the kid's. we should also hasten to listen to what the children have to say, this booust their confidence and manners.
food for thought.

KABILO (CLAN LAW ENFORCEMENT)

Breakdown in value system. Discipline has disappear. Bounds between families has lessen. Communal eating as a family.

KABILA (a group clan descipline technique). families take responsilities for the actions of their family member, no one to blame but the whole family, so people have a burden on their shoulder.
Outdate it is, the days when the community use to observe laws in localities. Even an over 30 years old lad like myself can hardly remember the method use in the discipline of nutty grown-ups. The method of clan law enforcement is best referred to as kabila. The term use to instil fear in rogue folk just like modern day police officers. But if going by policing of now, kabila was much more effective.
What is kabilaro? This is where an entire family call upon a grown-up family member who break the social norm beyoun acceptable limit. The methods was so effective, the biggest bully will wee in his pants at the hearing of a family meeting. What makes it so effective?
Kabilalo is a mandingo word for clan or all extended family ties. If a member of a given family for instance impregnate another family’s daughter outside marriage, the man will be invited in a clan meeting. But the guilty party wouldn’t know that he is going into a trap. A trap in the sense that every single adult member of the family will be present.
After the man enters the room, he will find himself in the middle of an all male den. He will be seated in the centre. A chosen clan member will do the interrogation. The man will be allow to defend himself after the accusations are thrown at him. His defence will depend of the statements of the lady who was impregnated.
The mere fact that, one breaks the social norms of having sex with a woman you are not suppose to, result in a social beating. The guilty party is in the centre, and he is told to defend the blows from everybody. Since he was man enough to impregnate then he should be man enough to defend himself. Whether the thinking behind the communal punishment is logical, i can’t say. But what it use to do is put people inline. This discipline technique was not just men having affairs but for theft, fighting and all other criminal acts.
Things were done with due care and protocol. Respect was very important, petty theft was non-existence. The elders then where true elders. People hardly use capital punishment, a twinkle of an eye use to mean a lot to youngsters.
Men knew their limits, if one inflicts harm on his spouse, a potential family conflict ensued. So women where talk to regarding the norms, this is call BUMBA (an all women council, giving out advice and rule that marriage couple adhere to). If a man breaks these rules, that woman can report the matter to ladies of the bumba and they take the matter from there. The men also receive their own talking. This was called KEWULO. Kewulo (an all men secret council, which advice men on their duties and responsibilities and what they can and can’t do).
These regulated norm use to be a stabiliser in village set-ups so much so that, even kid’s realise the things they can get away with. An outsider to one’s immediate family can dish out warnings to unruly children. Nutty gangs and smoking group are non-existent. Children caught smoking brought bring to themselves a very embarrassing told-off. That told-off is not just done by mum and dad but by his close immediate family. This is very effective. The child now realises the expectation on his/her discipline. Bad behaviour is not tolerated.
I remember hearing of a case in my own village, a foreigner not knowing the rules of our village. He rode through the village gates with a cigarette on his mouth. Our village bands any one smoking cigarette in the village square. You can smoke in your back garden or outside the small village but not inside it. This guy rode up to the village head, and make his greetings whilst puffing his cigar. He was escorted off the village to finish of his smoke and then allow back in. Is this rational, not on the face of it, but what it resulted is the very low smoker population of my village, one can easily count the smokers with the fingers easily. What one cannot enjoy within the community, it becomes very un-enjoyable. When i read of the smoking ban in British pubs, i remembered that old norms of my village. Was it irrational? This depends of one’s judgement.
There was no teenage pregnancy then, especially unmarried ones. There was no crime spree, no violence against innocent people, and very low level of theft.
This people were not educated in the modern sense but they understood their environment. Things were solved using what appeal to people’s conscience and humanity. Social responsibility which is paramount to multi-nationals now a day was practice in villages without any material benefit attached.
Kabilalo is now dead and buried. Replaced by the police. No one cares about the neighbour that much. Kid’s do as they like. The discipline was transferred to school authorities and the schools were restricted what they can and can’t do. So boys rule the streets and girls rule the house. The dad’s are no were, mum are engage twenty four hours. From naming ceremonies to shopping, from wedding to regular weekly meetings, from one event to the other. Kid’s have the time to themselves to do as they like. The men are so useless; they now advice their daughters to hunt for men.
I would rather have my village life back; at least you were guarantee safety and true community spirit. I am not blaming our adoption of any other people’s value; we choose to change, so we take the blame.
Rest in peace kabila.

weight gain

i have long consider myself as a man who will always be puting on a healthy weight. how wrong. my maximum weight has always been 75 kg or 12 stone but now i am 80 kilos or over 12 stone.
the reason, my studies. i spend a long time at campus and thus eat my lunch and diner out. home meal is what i alway like eating. the long periods away from home leads me to eating out. the kibabs with friends and fizzy has caught up with me.
but hell, i am ready for the exercise. i train every early morning and drink very little amount of tea a day. on average i drink 14 cups of tea a day, but now, i am only having 5. my wife commented about my weight and this affected me. she was only joking but i hate being big. guys, watch out for your weight. our health is our life. nothing beats a quality life but not minding your diet can affect you in many strange ways. but suntou is getting back in shape. huuu.

The Marabouts (spiritual doctors) part 2

Magicians.
They are divided into two categories by experts. Those who practice tricks. This people practiced their trade hard and are very careful in the extend they go in entertaining viewers. They usually specialise in cards and fast hands. They are the least into the devil world.
The real magicians are those who go the extra mile by. They do things unusual and strange. They can make things disappear, they hypnotises audiences easily. They perform rituals before performing magic. This people are all over the place, in Asia, Africa, Europe, America. Everywhere. They can do things for people but mostly they do performances. In Africa we refer to them as witch doctors or voodoo art masters. They advice people to do rituals must often than not involving red animals and horns.
This people can hold snakes, cut themselves, make money appear out of nowhere etc.

Why do people really go to marabouts and sorcerers practicing voodoo or magic?
The answer varies. There is no easy answer. What is apparent is that, envy, jealousy and hatred plays a key part in the decision making. Also the desire to attain wealth easily and quickly and power and position. This all contribute to people visiting marabouts.
The truth that many marabouts will honestly testify to is that, the majority of their customers or clients are women. This is a very sad social trend. But unfortunately, women are the most emotional beings among humans. Their emotion sometimes drove them to easily make hasty decision. Also the social make-up of the African region makes women wanting to be love and cared for. Since some areas, men can marry more than one wife; the need for women to compete for the heart of the man becomes all the more ruthless. The marabouts benefits more than the women and other visitors.
The jealous rivalry drove these women to the marabouts in doing things that makes the husband have an eye for only them. The husband can be feed contaminated food; this takes a long period before the effect is seen.
Some men unfortunately die through regular consumption of the NASOO or medicine prepared by the marabouts. Some men instantly spot pot bellies and slight deformation due to the bad effect of the herb. Some rival women don’t stop at the husband, they go after the kids of the co-wife. That is why this marabouts are dangerous, no job is too small so long as the price is paid.
Also policians use the help of marabouts extensively. Some accounts reveal rival dying during campaign or being inflicted with terrible illness, some leading to impotency. The marabouts also help students, business men and women, every one basically. Even potential travellers abroad seek their help.
Can we say the under lying reason for visiting them is poverty and illiteracy? NO. I have personally seen some of the richest and educated men in the Gambia visit this people. Just like in India the wealthiest patronise the monks and holy men, and even bow down to them, people also believe highly in the abilities of this marabouts.
How can a person affected with magic or marabout work be spotted?
Some few signal documented by experts is that of the following:
A man suddenly dislikes the actions of his wife and vice versa for women.
If the magic is buried in a house or compound, whenever the affect person comes close to it, he/she gets agitated a little.
The affected person quarrels very easily, he/she found things irritating very quickly.
Bad dream and nightmares is very common, Usually violence.
Very poor concentration and easy change of behaviour or attitude.
How do the items prepared by the marabouts or serign used?
There are many forms of utilising the marabout’s work:
Some are placed in horn of a certain type, example goat, sheep, etc depending of the type of magic.
Some are placed in a silver ring; this is usually for seeking wealth and fame.
What about amulets? This is the most widely use form of utilising marabout’s work. The katim (usually writing mixture of some verses and strange numbers and wordings anagrammatised together with the incantation before folding it into different shapes, commonly refer to as jujus). The marabouts can advice on the type of animal skin to place the work into. Mainly goat skin is use or sheep skin. It can be made into square like shape or long snake like shape. This is worn around the waist, arm or neck. The most dangerous of this amulets or juju is refer to has mankano ( a very rapid impact juju) this is so bad, in the old days men who wore it avoid touching their own kids or wife's during the period they are having it on. the impact is that, as soon as the one is angry with some one, you pull it to a certain stretch.
Another form of utilising the marabout or magician work is the preparation of liquid type, this is naasoo (black colour writing on tablet that is wash-off into a bowl and poured into a bottle).
If this is the verses of the holy book, then that it is very sad, the fact that one either drinks this water or apply it. Which means one will urinate the water later run. The verses of the holy book urinated is very unislamic.
The amulets are carry into all sorts of places, if its contain some verses of the holy book, then not taking the word of God into dirty and filthy places is broken. The extend of sin is incalculable.
Some works are buried as stated earlier in road inter-section or under trees, hanging them of tress is also usual. Extreme cases involve tying it to a bird’s leg and releasing it. Each method of usage has a symbol and a meaning.
The sacrifices for the Jinns
Animal offerings. This are dependent on the need of the occasion and the demands of the client. Animals are the commonest but sometimes, accusations are thrown at certain rich individuals who don’t seems to be doing anything extra ordinary but they are strangely rich. This people are accused of involvement in human sacrifice for the jinns.
Money sometimes comes at a price. Hard work or dubious corrupt means, but the odd accusation of devilish wealth is a common utterances in Nigeria, the Gambia, Ghana, Senegal, in Europe and South America and even the U.S got their own kind of accusation of human sacrifices. I don’t mean here, unnecessary wars for diamond or oil or even gold. This sound ridiculous but as they say, there is no smoke without fire. The vomiting serpent.
What are the method of curing someone with marabout’s magic?
Some experts recommend drinking a pounded lotus tree leaves. The affected person should avoid sinful areas. He/she must perform his prayers on time and read the Quran very often. He can go to a righteous Muslim who is not into the marabout art to read the Quran over him. Some people also recommend the black seed oil, with honey. The zam zam water is also recommended. The constant read ing of ayatul kurdsi Quran 2: 255,20:69,7:117-122,10:81-82 and also surah 2:285 and 286. Many other duaas of the noble prophet.
The preventative measures against the marabouts evil work.
Again the performance of Sallah or prayer on time. Avoidance of sinful activities and places where act of immorality takes place.
Reading the last three surahs or chapters of the Quran before bed and after Fajr prayers in the morning. And also being in wudu (cleanliness) all the time. The Satan fears people in pure state. They can hardly affect you when one places his trust in God only and no one else. Eating only halal food earn honestly avoiding taking bribes and corrupt income and illegal drug money. Being just with people and between people under one’s control.
What is the punishment for magicians, fortune tellers, evil marabouts, astrologers?
Clearly the prophet of Islam stated that, anyone who visit a fortune teller and believes in what he has to say, his prayers for forty days will not be accepted. This means if one dies in that state, he is destining for hell. there are several methods of doing fortune telling, one which is acceptable is istikara. this is perform by an individual himself. no need to consult any one for this. the others are all forbidden according to hadith. marabouts use sand, palm, water, cards (this is very common, in fact this is what many use. it is call ramble.) many would advice their marabouts to do a istikara for them, the marabout conveniently do a ramble, it easy and more clearer.
What about if one make someone sick or separate couples? Only God can say what the extend of the punishment is.
How do fortune tellers sometimes give people accurate accounts or news?
It is stated that every person has two jinns with him or her at all times. This jinns are invincible to us but they are present with us all the time. One influence us positively and the other negatively.
The magician, voodoo master, marabouts, sorcerer has his own jinn that works for him. That Jinn or devil communicate with the bad or evil jinn with people. He gets some facts from him and then pass that information to the marabout or magician or marabout's jinn.
You may go to this marabouts and they can tell you your name and what happen to you in the past few days. This puzzle people. Many takes this as a great wonder and place this devil worshiper at a very high status. These are tricks. The two jinn communicate on things that one has already knows. Say you strongly intend to do something, the two Jinn automatically knows that. The place you live and the details about you are known to the jinn. So when you visit the marabouts, depending on his level of involvement with the Jinn, his jinn can get detail account of one’s life from the visiting person’s Jinn. This shouldn't’t be of any surprise and reasons to believe in the abilities of the marabout or magician. He has sold his soul already.
The jinn can predict the future inaccurately, just like people can use machine to forecast the future weather. The marabouts can surprise you with few future events, this may come to pass, but still he is getting such information in an evil way.
What about astrologers? to be continued insahalah.

Marabouts and fortune tellers

this is a work i will spend a lot of time on. it is a wide research area. i intend to do a classic work on the topic in detail later and i will provide pictures and proof of mixture of Islamic writings and other Alain ideas in the marabout work.
this thread will continue from where i stop.

The evils of fortune telling, divination, Astrology, maraborism and witchcraft
A hobby that many in our region are addicted to is the believe in fortune tellers and marabouts. Our time, energy and income is wasted due to our consultations of devil worshippers con holy men drape in saintly dress. These men have been deceiving our people for a very long time now. Their trade is one, i mean fortune tellers, marabouts (evil ones), witch doctors, and the astrologers (star sign). They have one thing in common, which is the desire to enrich themselves at the expense of poor gullible masses who hope for redemption from sinful and secretive corrupt men.
What is the knowledge or skills possessed by these devil Marabouts in general?
There has been few researches conducted in the affairs of marabouts, fortune tellers, astrologers, witchcraft and other magicians. The findings are heart rendering and sad. The people we once believe to be God-fearing and righteous are nothing but secret devil worshippers mixing open Islamic rituals with secret cultic rituals. This men pray with us in mosques, churches and other respectable places, yet they only do that for the show.
When men and women don’t fear God has he should be feared, they start to fear other than God. Whether this is the fear of powerful people, the devil, evil men/women and our fear of many other things. The sub-conscious mind kept reminding us to do something about our fears; this is where the marabouts, fortune tellers, astrologer, and magicians become useful. Superstition is a grave sin and weakness.
Marabouts and magicians has what is refer to as harmful knowledge. This is magic, sorcery, witchcraft and in contact with devils. The racist Satan who hates humans did his best to bewitch our ancestor Adam, from when the devil was banished from grace; he has declared war on us.
Our Ancestor Adam and his earlier offspring knew the tricks of the devil after he has deceived him and Hawa out of paradise. Adam warn his children against obeying the temptations of the devil, and some scholars stated that for a thousand years, the devil’s plot proof futile against Adam and his children. But then the devil device new tricks and methods to get at us. Our quest to know the unseen and have everything perfect drive us into doing things forbidin to us by God the one and only.
The wishes of Satan is to take with him as many humans into hell as possible. He must then have accomplishes among men who will work for him at a price. His recruits have being serving him ever since man starts to obey his commands.
The worship of one God, without associating partners with him in worship and attribute. This is monotheism. But then the opposite is what many men are doing; polytheism. This is associating partners with god, either in worship or attributes. For Muslims, this is going outside Islam. It is call shirk. The greatest sin man can ever commit. The Quran states that “shirk is a sin which is major”.
The marabouts explain.
The word is a Muslim term use mainly in the west African region. The word denotes an educated Muslim scholar with high social standing. Their position became so important, they act has educators, peace makers, community leaders, trustees, and finally the over bearing role of problem solvers (marital, job, illness and many other delicate social issues).
The marabout traditionally studies the Quran. But in the traditional sense, no one ascertain the level of scholarship of these men. One goes through years of study in a very incoherent way, and in your maturity, your master or teachers release you away. Sometimes this is through a ceremony. In the mandingo and Jahanka societies, one may graduate as a Foday or just refer to as Afan.
The teachers themselves are privy to what they call secretive knowledge (kulo or dalilo). This is sometimes mystified as the inner meanings or higher meanings of the Quran. But that is where the deception lies. The Quran is a reveal book that can be read by all and sundry. There is nothing secretive about it. Yes, scholars have better interpretation and meanings of verses of the Quran and the reasons for the revelation of a certain verses. This knowledge’s can be attain in many universities across the globe.
Before dwelling too much into the affairs of the marabouts or sereigns, it is important to distinguish the marabouts. There are some who may not be into devil worship but on purely strict Islamic faith. But the seekers of wealth through the art of marabout skills alone is mostly involving jinn’s.
How those the relationship works?
The sorcerer, marabout, magician are like the call centres. They communicate with devils or spirit world in ways that only they know how. These men agree a contract with jinn’s or devils. The devils give certain task or duties to them. The magician or marabouts are given certain control over men. The sources of this knowledge is said to be from the book buried by king Solomon containing the names of jinn’s and how to overpower them. This book is in the hand of both marabouts, magicians, sorcerers and other devil worshippers. But many doubt this claim of there ever being a book buried by king Solomon.
What is apparent and important for us to know is that magic is knowledge that can be learn. Treating magic with magic is haram or forbidin since both involve communicating with the devil.
One can go to the mosque, line his house with Islamic book and has one of the longest counting bits but still communicate with devils and follow their orders.
This sorcerers challenge God. They commit over the top sinful acts just to please the devil. This is done by urinating on the holy book, writing verses in impurities, writing verses backward, etc. Whatever will anger God is what the devil wants. After this and many other evil tasks are done, the marabout now has his secret power that is his devil contact.
Marabouts are seen praying with others in mosque, fast in ramadam and do good things in the open, but this acts are just a blinder. They pray without the usual abulution or in a state of impurity.
The sad thing is, this marabouts, magicians, sorcerers themselves are at risk due to their relationship with the devils. The relationship is base on hate.
What is the main purpose of the marabouts, sorcerers, magicians? To gain wealth from people who seek their help. The attainment of wealth drove them to commit the most sinful thing ever, that is associating partners with God (shirk).
There are whole family set surrounding the marabouts. And the descendants see themselves with prestige and status. They assume hereditary position by handing over the secret from person to person within the family.
The simple way to know one is involve with the jinn is as follows. When you go them for consultation, they ask you the following question:
You name
Your mother’s name
If the task is to inflict someone with magic or effect of the marabourism, they request the name of the person to whom the marabouts magic is to be perform. Many would be confuse as to my use of magic, the marabout practice their own style of magic unbeknown to people. Magic is not just fast hand or tricks.
They will frequently ask you to sacrifice animals on certain days. These sacrifices are for their devils.
On certain occasions depending on the task, the customer is asked to do strange things. Bring along human hair, sweat, blood, anything of personal importance to the targeted person.
The work they carry out using the Quran is combine with other strange writings. They use numbers extensively, this is anagrams ot katim ot katimo in local languages. This is mastering numbers negatively and combined with incantation unislamic.
There is a whole industry base of the cult of marabourism. They device methods to encapsulate the masses. The organise Gamos (religious gatherings), festivals (commemorating the deaths of saints). They have links across borders and has what is refer to has talibes (students) in localities.
The marabouts has a history, some very glorious. The founding fathers of some clans are God-fearing and upright, that has to be noted but later generation tend to be greedy and materialistic. The demands of customers also has increase. This high expectation comes with it the need to proof oneself. And this sadly cannot be attain without the involvement of Jinns.
The difference between the Jinn worshippers.
This people can hold snakes, cut themselves, make money appear out of nowhere etc.
to be continued.

Kelefa Sanneh

Kelefa Sanneh
The contrasting story of the life of Kelifa Sanneh. Kelefa Sanneh was prince in a province of Kabuu. An area referred to as Badora Brikama. The two narrations by eminent Mandinka bards ie Bamba Suso and Shirif Jebate.
I read the accounts in a book given to me by the Stchool of Oriental and African studies (SAOS). As a Mandinka, i approached them for books about historical and anthropological nature dealing with the mandingo people. I was surprised when the publication office offered to give me free the book about the life of Kelefa. this book was compiled by Gordon Innes University of London 1978.
The other book i am inline to receive in six months time is that of E.C Rowlands, mandingo grammar book.
It is my hobby to read history of the of mandingo society. It happens that the old kabbu empire was destroyed in and around 1860. So it will be interesting to know which period Kelefa operates. One thing is known, that is his encounter with Mansa Demba Sonko of Nuimi.
Demba Sonko is a late 18 century ruler in Nuimi which place kelefa life and career round about that time. He may have existed after the fall of the Kabuu Empire. The reason being the Jalis don’t mention the centre of Kabuu kings Kansala in Kelefa’s life story.
Kabbu was famous for Kansala has its capital. Kelefa’s life story is talked about and songs sang about it. But it seems that he was just a warrior who arose from a small area control by his uncle not the story of a mandinka warrior in the old kabbu empire. His life story is full of bravery and disdain for authority. He was brave to face death even though he knew he may loss his life in the battle at Jokadu Barrier. He will remain a mystified figure for years to come. The songs about Kelefa’s life are, Kelefa Sanneh, kuruntu kelefa and kelefa Sanneh taki sabo.
